The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, called on Fine to resign.
“It is vile, violent rhetoric. It’s completely unbecoming of a member of Congress, and it’s long past time for the leaders of Congress to condemn Mr. Fine and demand his resignation,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the group’s national deputy director.

Critics of HB 2061 in Missouri include a group of leaders from the Jewish Reform Movement in St. Louis, who issued a statement online and in the St. Louis Jewish Light in January expressing “deep concerns that this particular approach to fighting antisemitism may backfire.” Other opponents include Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Action, the Council on American-Islamic Relations Action, Amnesty International, and the Missouri Equity Education Partnership.

Imran Ghani, the executive director of CAIR-Houston, said about a dozen accredited-Islamic schools and hundreds of families from Dallas, Houston and Austin have called the organization to complain about the situation.
“By failing to approve even one accredited Islamic school, the state has effectively barred Muslim parents,” Ghani said. He added that even schools that have not hosted events with CAIR have also been snubbed from the program.
“It just seems to be a blanket discriminatory practice that has led to a lot of feelings of isolation and unfair treatment in the Muslim community,” Ghani said. He explained that the events being hosted at schools are “Know Your Rights” events for Muslims.
Ghani said CAIR will not be filing a lawsuit related to the matter, but did confirm that it is recommending concerned families contact law firms that have expressed interested in litigating the issue.
Khalid Turaani of CAIR-Ohio said “we’re seeing ICE agents are parked at the front literally to disenfranchise these businesses who are legal, who are taxpayers, who are employers,” he told WCMH-TV.
