Eid al-Adha, which translates to “the festival of sacrifice,” celebrates when the prophet Abraham agreed to sacrifice his son Ismail after God asked him to, said Aya Elamroussi, a spokesperson for the Council on American-Islamic Relations New Jersey (CAIR-NJ). The holiday “symbolizes Muslims’ complete faith in God even when we don’t totally understand the meaning or whatever is asked of us,” she said. “It signifies our deep faith.”
