CAIR-Texas: Will James Talarico Really Fight for Justice in Texas? – The Intercept

Sameeha Rizvi, the Texas policy and advocacy coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said refusing to describe the war as a genocide could turn away voters in Texas’ Muslim community. And while Rizvi has heard the sentiment that Palestine is an unwinnable issue in a red state, she pointed to growing voter frustration with Israel on both the left and right over the genocide in Gaza and the U.S. and Israel’s war in Iran, connecting that outrage to the economic issues that powered Talarico’s campaign.

“We can barely afford the cost of living, and health care is like inaccessible to half the population.”

“Ending the genocide and standing with the Palestinian people essentially does benefit this country, because we wouldn’t be sending billions of our taxpayer dollars over to a foreign entity for them to commit genocide. We look back at our state at home and we can barely afford the cost of living, and health care is like inaccessible to half the population,” Rizvi said.

CAIR: Posts claim Pete Hegseth has racist tattoos. We took a closer look – Snopes

Finally, placed right below the “Deus Vult” tattoo, Hegseth appears to have the Arabic word “kafir” tattooed. Kafir can be translated as “infidel” or “nonbeliever.”

This tattoo appeared in a photo of Hegseth posted to the official Secretary of Defense X account on March 25, 2025, and was immediately criticized by some as being anti-Muslim. For instance, the Council on American-Islamic Relations released a statement two days later calling the tattoo “a sign of both anti-Muslim hostility and personal insecurity.”

CAIR-LA: Buena Park pastor removed as police chaplain over anti-Muslim social media posts – Los Angeles Times

A representative from the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ local chapter called anti-Muslim sentiments “especially concerning” when coming from chaplains affiliated with law enforcement agencies.

“Chaplains working alongside public officers should provide spiritual support and guidance rooted in dignity and respect for all people, regardless of faith background,” said Amr Shabaik, CAIR-LA’s legal director. “When hate in such a public manner is allowed to go unchecked, it erodes public trust and puts the safety and well-being of all our communities at risk.”

CAIR-Pittsburgh: For Pittsburghers with Middle East ties, a harrowing period after US and Israel attack Iran – Union-Bulletin

Christine Mohamed, executive director of Council on American-Islamic Relations Pittsburgh, said she is “deeply alarmed” by the ongoing U.S. and Israeli military strikes. Mohamed said she fears there could be an increase in Islamophobia around Pittsburgh, especially as people congregate in large groups for Ramadan.

“It deeply affects our community because of family members and ties over to that region, but (there is) also an increased risk for incidents here at home because tensions are high and we do tend historically to get backlash when something is happening overseas,” she said.

“With the conflict possibly escalating and getting larger, that’s a concern because more innocent lives will be changed forever.”

CAIR: Oklahoma lawmakers advance bill limiting ability to consider religious practices – Oklahoma Voice

The Council on American-Islamic Relations-Oklahoma, a nonprofit advocacy group that advocates for Oklahoma Muslims, is opposing that resolution along with a second, House Joint Resolution 1040. The latter would bar the consideration of Sharia Law and international law by the courts.

“These measures write discrimination into the state constitution and must be stopped,” the group said in a statement.

“There is absolutely no Sharia takeover of Oklahoma courts — our judges are bound by the U.S. Constitution, period,” the group said. “These proposals are fear-based political theater that waste taxpayer dollars and target one faith community for discrimination. Lawmakers must reject HJR 1040 and HJR 1084 and stand firmly on the side of the Constitution.”
