According to a CAIR press release, the court “believes Hamdi’s legal team has raised serious questions regarding whether his detention was retaliation for protected speech under the First Amendment.”

The Michigan chapter of the Council on American–Islamic Relations criticized the FBI’s lack of transparency and the fact that no charges have been filed. Executive Director Dawud Walid stressed that, no matter what the investigation uncovers, Muslims in Dearborn and across the US do not owe anyone an apology for the actions of others.
“People in the community are getting tired of this idea of collective guilt, or somehow we have to answer for the alleged actions of a couple of people,” Walid told CNN.

To that end, CAIR-Ohio, a Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, holds forums to promote civic participation and transparency by connecting underrepresented voices with those who lead them.

The complaint was made to the city’s Office of Equity and Inclusion by the Frederick County NAACP, Frederick for Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace D.C. Metro and the Council on American-Islamic Relations Maryland branch.
It called for, among other things, a “formal racial equity review of the Council’s handling” of both Kuzemchak’s resolution and a ceasefire resolution put forward by Frederick Ceasefire Now, an organization now called Frederick for Justice in Palestine.
