In condemning Miller’s post, the Council on American-Islamic Relations noted that she initially identified the turban-wearing Singh as a Muslim. She corrected the post to say “Sikh” before deleting it altogether.
“It is deeply troubling that a member of Congress would be so ignorant of the diverse faiths in our nation and would express that ignorance by targeting a respected representative of the Sikh community with Islamophobic smears,” said Salaedin Maksut, CAIR-NJ’s executive director.
“Such reckless rhetoric not only endangers Muslim and Sikh communities, it also undermines the core values of what it means to be American.”

Nihad Awad, executive director for the Council on American–Islamic Relations, said the revamped policy remains overly broad, politically motivated, and unnecessary.
“The fact that this iteration is more careful than the previous one doesn’t make it just, doesn’t make it right, and doesn’t make it OK,” Awad said. “It targets, unjustly, an entire population based on their ethnicities and backgrounds.”
