The Islamic Maryland Action Network (IMAN Network), comprised of over 35 mosques and Muslim organizations across the state representing over 350,000 Muslims, cautiously welcomes the long-overdue ceasefire agreement in Gaza as a crucial step to stop the ongoing slaughter of Palestinians.
For the last two years, Maryland’s Muslim communities have rallied, lobbied, marched, prayed, and raised their collective voices alongside people of conscience across the world demanding an end to this genocide.
While this ceasefire offers much-needed relief to the population of Gaza which has endured two years and 70+ years of unimaginable suffering, we emphasize that a ceasefire alone is not sufficient—and that true justice requires full access to humanitarian aid, an end to Israel’s siege and accountability for Israeli war crimes committed against Palestinian men, women, and children.
An equivalent of at least six Hiroshima bombs have been dropped by Israel on Gaza, with many families entirely erased from the Gaza civil registry, hospitals destroyed, and a generation of children traumatized under collective punishment.
As a coalition rooted in faith and justice, the IMAN Network reaffirms that Palestinian lives are also sacred, and they too deserve to live with freedom, dignity, and security in their own homeland free from colonial interference and occupation.
We call on Maryland’s elected officials and all U.S. leaders to move beyond symbolic gestures, and to:
- Support Block the Bombs Act in Congress to end arms for Israeli war crimes;
- Support international investigations into Israeli crimes against humanity;
- Support the liberation of Palestine.
Our prayers are with every family mourning their loved ones and with all who continue to work for peace rooted in justice.
