BREAKING: CAIR Demands Release of New Orleans Grandmother Kidnapped and Beaten by Israeli Forces in West Bank

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today demanded the release of a New Orleans grandmother Samaher Esmail who was reportedly kidnapped and beaten in the West Bank by forces of the far-right Israeli government.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“We call on the State Department to investigate this incident and secure the immediate release of Samaher Esmail before something even worse happens to her. For far too long, the Israeli government has faced little to no pushback from the Biden administration for targeting Americans, from Shireen Abu Akleh to the Americans under threat in Gaza. This must change.”

Last month, CAIR condemned the killing of a Palestinian-American teen by the forces of the far-right Israeli government in the occupied West Bank.

He said hundreds of relatives of American citizens have already been killed by Israel in Gaza the West Bank and noted President Biden’s refusal to meet with the family of murdered Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

Last year, CAIR called on the State Department and FBI to investigate the shooting and detention of a 13-year-old Palestinian-American boy by Israeli forces in the West Bank.

Also last year, CAIR called on the Biden administration to demand “real justice” after an announcement that Israeli soldiers will not face criminal prosecution for the death of an elderly Palestinian-American man who they dragged from a car, bound and left unresponsive on the ground overnight after apparently suffering a heart attack.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.

CAIR-SFBA Urges UC Berkeley to Address Doxxing Incident Targeting Pro-Palestinian Community Members

CAIR-SFBA Senior Civil Rights Attorney Jeffrey Wang emphasized the severity of this issue in his letter to UC Berkeley leadership, stating:

“Accuracy in Media’s deliberate intimidation, harassment, and targeting of Arab, Muslim, and other pro-Palestinian members of the Berkeley community and their allies is opprobrious and should not be tolerated. Such hateful behavior cannot be ignored, especially when Palestinians and their allies are facing unprecedented backlash for opposing Israel’s violence in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.”
