(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/5/22) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the possibly bias-motivated shooting deaths of three Muslim men in New Mexico.
Albuquerque police said the shootings may be connected and are investigating whether the same person carried out all three ambush attacks and may have targeted the victims because of their religion. The FBI is also investigating the case.

“We hope this reward will lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator or perpetrators of these heinous crimes,” said National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “If a bias-motive is determined, state and federal authorities should apply appropriate hate crime charges.”

Awad noted that just yesterday, CAIR’s New Jersey chapter condemned an alleged bias-motivated attack targeting congregants at the Islamic Congregation of North Jersey, also known as Masjid Abu Bakr, in Paterson, N.J.
He added that CAIR released a report earlier this year on Islamophobia nationwide, titled “Still Suspect: The Impact of Structural Islamophobia,” detailing more than 6,700 civil rights complaints that the group received in the previous year.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
