The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is urging the community to take swift action to contact Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson and Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee Chair Will Smith and urge them to act now to pass House Bill 1222 Values Act, which has crossed over from the House and has now stalled in the Senate.
Today, the final day of the 2025 Maryland General Assembly session, is the last opportunity to bring it for a vote.

Part of the 2025 Immigrant Justice Package, this bill is Maryland’s clearest opportunity to reject the cruel and extrajudicial deportation tactics aggressively revived by the Trump administration by prohibiting 287(g) programs that allow Maryland law enforcement to act as ICE agents.
