CAIR Action Alert: Call on DNC to Take Action Against Men Responsible for Islamophobic Attack at Convention

Take action today to demand that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) clearly and publicly condemns the Islamophobic attack on a Muslim woman and other silent anti-genocide protesters during its August convention, takes action against any DNC members responsible and cooperates with the ongoing law enforcement investigation.

During President Biden’s DNC speech on August 19, 2024, Florida DNC delegate and law professor Nadia Ahmad and other delegates silently held up a sign that read “Stop Arming Israel.” Several men in box seats behind them, who were later identified as members of the New England chapter of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, allegedly attacked the silent protesters. Three different union members allegedly struck Professor Ahmad, who was wearing a hijab (Islamic head scarf), with poles attached to “We Love You Joe” signs, reportedly causing a concussion.

The three men allegedly involved in the assault have been identified by victims and members of the public as LiUNA members, and their names have been shared with law enforcement and the DNC. Despite this, DNC leadership has failed to specifically condemn the attack in public, take action against those responsible, express support for the ongoing criminal investigation, or make a commitment to institute training on anti-Muslim bigotry or anti-Palestinian racism.
