The Austin chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas, Austin), alongside state and city elected officials, civil rights organizations, and interfaith leaders, plans to hold a press conference on Tuesday, December 2 to address Greg Abbott’s ongoing attacks on minority groups and civic life in Texas that were sealed with his unconstitutional and baseless proclamation against CAIR, the most prominent American Muslim grassroot advocacy and civil rights organization in the U.S.
CAIR-Austin said in a statement:
“Hostile rhetoric that once appeared only in online comment sections, where observers suspect actors seeking to distract public from the ongoing genocide in Gaza and scapegoat minority groups for political gains, has now been shamefully reflected in an official proclamation. We call on all Texans to reject this dangerous rhetoric and stand together in defense of our state’s civic life. Our tax dollars should be used to address the real needs of Texans, not to support internationally condemned war crimes. And no political campaigns should ever be built on spreading hate, division, or fear.”
Press Conference Details:
- Date: Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025
- Time: 11:30 AM CST
- Location: verified reporters can email us at info@cairtx.org to receive the address of the press conference.
Background:
Last month, Governor Abbott signed a proclamation declaring CAIR a “foreign terrorist organization.” He also demanded investigations into so-called “sharia law courts” in Texas. CAIR has filed a lawsuit to challenge Governor Abbott’s slanderous attacks.
