CAIR-Austin Welcomes Arrest of Texas Man Who Allegedly Killed Unarmed Adil Dghoughi in Rural Texas

(AUSTIN, TX, 10/22/2021) – The Austin chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-Austin), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of Terry Turner who allegedly shot and killed unarmed Adil Dghoughi in Martindale, Texas.

In a statement, CAIR-Austin Executive Director Faizan Syed said: “We welcome the arrest, but our work is not done. We will continue to advocate for justice for the family of Adil Dghoughi and for all the families in Texas and nationwide impacted by gun violence.”   

Adil Dghoughi was a Moroccan national who obtained a master’s degree in financial analysis from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island after immigrating to the U.S. in 2013. The killing occurred at 3:40 A.M. on Monday, Oct. 11 in the small town of Martindale, Texas, 34 miles southwest of Austin, with a population of fewer than 1,000 people.

CAIR-Austin is organizing a vigil in remembrance of Dghoughi outside of the Texas Capitol this Saturday. Family members and loved ones will be present to talk about Dghoughi’s life and the tragedy of his loss. Interfaith leaders will also speak and share prayers for the deceased.
