The Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-AZ) today announced that after weeks of collaboration with the Arizona Senate and House of Representatives, a proclamation honoring the innocent lives lost in Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, and the Congo was officially read on the Senate floor yesterday, February 11, 2025.
SEE: Month of remembrance; lives lost
The historic moment was marked by a special invocation delivered by Imam Omar Al-Tawil, who opened the Senate session with a prayer, emphasizing unity, compassion, and the pursuit of justice.
In a statement, CAIR-AZ Executive Director Azza Abuseif said:
“This proclamation serves as a recognition of the profound human toll of ongoing conflicts and a call to acknowledge the suffering of affected communities worldwide. We welcome this important resolution that honors the innocent lives tragically lost in Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon, and the Congo.
“At a time when the world bears witness to immense suffering and injustice, it is crucial to recognize and remember those who have perished due to violence, conflict, and humanitarian crises.
“We applaud the senators who have taken a principled stand by supporting this resolution, demonstrating moral courage and a commitment to upholding justice and human rights. Their leadership reflects a dedication to standing on the right side of history, advocating for peace, and acknowledging the dignity of all human lives. We hope this resolution serves as a step toward meaningful action and lasting change.”
