The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today supported calls for a thorough and transparent investigation of the death of Black student Demartravion “Trey” Reed, who was found hanging from a tree on the campus of Delta State University in Mississippi earlier this week.

In a statement, CAIR said:
“We extend our condolences to the family of Demartravion Reed and we strongly support their call for a thorough and transparent investigation into his death, including an independent autopsy. Given the nature of Mr. Reed’s death, the long history of racist killings in Mississippi, and the speed with which foul play was downplayed as a potential cause, the community and country have serious, reasonable questions about what happened here and those questions must be answered.”
