CAIR-CA Congratulates Sacramento State University Students and Applauds Administration for Working With Students

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Sacramento Valley/Central California (CAIR-SV/CC) extends heartfelt congratulations to the students of Sacramento State University for the successful acknowledgment of their demands concerning their pro-Palestine encampment. CAIR-SV/CC also commends the university leadership for their responsiveness and constructive engagement with student voices.

This commendable development marks a significant step in fostering an inclusive and respectful academic environment where all students can feel heard and valued. The administration’s decision to engage positively with the student demands exemplifies a commitment to dialogue and understanding that is crucial in today’s diverse educational landscapes.

“Today, we celebrate strong students who pushed hard and worked hard to make their campuses safer spaces,” said Sukaina Hussain, Interim Executive Director of CAIR SV/CC. “We are thankful to CSUS President Dr. Luke Wood for showing the world that you don’t have to go the way of Columbia or UCLA for students to stop protesting, you just have to talk with them.”

CAIR-SV/CC applauds both the students for their determination and the university officials for their willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue. CAIR-SV/CC continues to support efforts that encourage respect, understanding, and dialogue across all communities.

Divestment from corporations directly involved in war profiteering is an integral part of ensuring that students on campus feel grounded in a university system that promotes safety, justice, and equity for all in their day-to-day operations. Sacramento State showed us all that principled peaceful protest works and that administrations need not resort to taking such extreme measures such as calling on the police or swat to forcibly remove protestors.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Sacramento Valley/Central California (CAIR-SV/CC) is a chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. We aim to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
