The National office (CAIR) and the Massachusetts and Connecticut chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) today extended condolences to the families and loved ones of Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook, who were killed in the mass shooting on Saturday at Brown University.
CAIR and CAIR-CT also offered prayers for the full and speedy recovery of those who were injured in the attack.
In a statement, Farhan Memon, Chairman of CAIR-Connecticut, said:
“We are heartbroken by the senseless loss of young lives at Brown University. On behalf of CAIR-CT, we extend our sincerest condolences to the families of Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook, and to the entire Brown community. Our prayers are with the injured, and we ask for strength, comfort, and healing for all those impacted by this tragedy. Violence has no place on our campuses or in our communities, and students deserve to feel safe, supported, and protected as they learn and grow.”
Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, Esq., CAIR-MA Executive Director added:
“Many members of the Brown University community are also members of our Massachusetts communities. We grieve alongside our neighbors and friends and all of those impacted by this senseless violence.”
CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“This devastating act of gun violence has shattered families and a university community. CAIR stands with the loved ones of the victims in mourning and with the injured in prayer for complete recovery. We urge leaders and institutions to come together to address the epidemic of gun violence and to ensure that campuses are safe spaces for learning, dialogue, and mutual respect.”
