CAIR Calls for International Action After Oxfam Report Shows Gaza Children Going Whole Day Without Food, Thousands Sharing Same Toilet

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for international action after a report by Oxfam found that “85 percent of children did not eat for a whole day at least once in the three days before the survey was conducted” and that thousands of displaced people are being forced to use one toilet.

“Living conditions are so appalling that in Al-Mawasi, there are just 121 latrines for over 500,000 people – or 4,130 people having to share each toilet,” Oxfam said. UK-based Oxfam also reported that more than two-thirds of Gaza’s population is now crammed into less than a fifth of the territory.

The World Food Program (WFP) said Monday that families that fled Rafah “are now in areas with insufficient clean water, medical supplies, fuel, and limited food assistance”.

“Despite the Biden administration’s long-awaited expression of support for a permanent ceasefire, it continues to fund the Israeli government’s daily genocidal war crimes against Palestinians in Rafah and the rest of Gaza,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “The Biden administration must take concrete action to force the Israeli government to stop the slaughter and starvation in Gaza. The genocide must end now, without delay.”

Yesterday, CAIR urges all American Muslim community members and allies to use its action alert system to tell their U.S. Representatives to “VOTE NO” on the misleadingly titled “Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act” (H.R. 8282), introduced by Texas Republican Chip Roy.

This act is a direct retaliation to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) attempt to secure an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes committed in and around Gaza against the people of Palestine.
