(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/13/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the international community to act against the demolition of Muslim homes by the Indian government.
Authorities in India’s Uttar Pradesh state demolished homes of several Muslim families following massive protests of derogatory remarks made by members of ruling Hindu nationalist party about Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“The tactics of authoritarian Islamophobic governments are always the same; targeting innocent civilians as a means of collective punishment to inhibit public protest. Our government and the international community must take a stand against India’s Islamophobic actions impacting the Muslim community.”
He noted that last week, CAIR welcomed the response of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its member states to recent comments by officials in India’s ruling BJP insulting Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and called on the OIC to take similarly unified action against the persecution of Muslims worldwide.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
