The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the demolition of a mosque in southern Lebanon by Israeli occupation forces as their “latest act of war against Islam.”
Video shows Israeli forces blowing up a mosque’s minaret in Khiam in southern Lebanon despite no active fighting occurring.
In a statement, CAIR said:
“As they did in Gaza, the Israeli occupation forces are ethnically cleansing the people of southern Lebanon and destroying all traces of their civilization, including mosques. The war criminals of the Israeli government should know that destroying mosques, their latest act of war against Islam itself, does not erase the faith or the connection the indigenous people have to their own land. The Israeli government’s attempts to establish Greater Israel on the homes and bones of Lebanese civilians using American weapons is a crime that our nation should not fund, support or ignore. The region is in flames because of the out-of-control Israeli government, and it is time for our government to put out their fires.”
He noted that yesterday, CAIR said the “revolting” torture of a one-year-old Palestinian child in Gaza by Israeli forces must lead to congressional action to block U.S. tax dollars from enabling crimes against humanity.
He also noted that earlier this month, CAIR called on members of Congress to condemn Israel’s ethnic cleansing in Lebanon that has displaced around one in five people in the country.
