CAIR Calls on Anyone with Information on Murder of Muslim Lyft Driver in Md. to Contact Authorities

Local police offer reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest, indictment

(BALTIMORE, Md., 3/1/2022) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today strongly condemned the murder of a Muslim Lyft driver in Prince George’s County, Md., last Saturday evening and is urging anyone with information about the case to notify police at 301-516-2512.

Abdul Rauf Khan, the long-time owner of Chutney Restaurant in Springfield, Va., was shot and killed, and then left abandoned in the Hillcrest Heights neighborhood of Prince George’s County by suspects who reportedly took off with his car. 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Khan family enduring this horrific ordeal,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “We encourage anyone with information about this senseless, cowardly act of violence to come forward and help bring the perpetrators to justice.” 

She said CAIR does not believe there is any indication of a bias motive in the case.

The county’s police chief Malik Aziz says the crime is “linked to a Lyft fare Khan picked up” in Washington, D.C. according to news sources. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 301-516-2512.
