The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to condemn comments made by Israeli Minister of Social Equality & Women’s Advancement May Golan in which she said she is “personally proud of the ruins of Gaza, and that every baby, even 80 years from now, will tell their grandchildren what the Jews did.”
When asked about the comments, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said “we care about the lives not just of Israelis but of Palestinians […] and we grieve for all of those who have been killed, all of those who have been injured, and it’s what animates our work to try to bring a durable end to this conflict.”
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“The Biden administration should condemn the sadistic, bloodthirsty rhetoric of this Israeli official and immediately stop bankrolling and arming the genocide the Israeli government is committing in Gaza. This is not the first time the Israeli government has expressed its genocidal intent. If our government takes action, it could stop the genocide.”
He noted that yesterday, CAIR called on House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic leader Hakim Jefferies to publicly repudiate Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) and to issue a formal censure for his recent statement that “We should kill them all” in reference to Palestinian children in Gaza.

Also yesterday, CAIR called on the Biden administration to address reported sexual violence, arbitrary detention and abuse by the forces of the far-right Israeli government targeting Palestinian women and girls.
CAIR has previously condemned similar comments by Israeli officials.
