(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/3/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Biden administration to condemn “provocations” by Israeli settlers targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.
Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, one of Islam’s holiest sites, and the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron on Sunday. Settlers played music, danced and performed religious rituals in the mosques. The provocations targeting the two holy sites come following an increase in such incidents in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

“By violating the sanctity of the holy Al-Aqsa and Ibrahimi mosques with these offensive marches, racist Israeli settlers backed by the Israeli government are attempting to spark religious conflict,” said CAIR Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “The Biden administration should condemn and take action to stop these hateful incidents.”
He noted that last week, CAIR responded to a call by the State Department for an investigation into the death of a 7-year-old Palestinian boy following a raid on his home by Israeli soldiers.
