(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/5/2024) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on President Biden to condemn the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, one of Islam’s holiest sites, by Israeli extremists ahead of the Israeli Flag Day parade.
CAIR also condemned racist chants, including “Death to Arabs,” by Israeli extremists in Jerusalem and assaults on journalists during the Flag Day parade.
Earlier today, hundreds of Israeli extremists stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, under heavy protection from Israeli police. They took provocative tours of the compound, and were joined by rabbis and politicians, including Israeli minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf, lawmaker Yitzhak Kreuzer and Moshe Feiglin, a far-right former MP.
Israeli extremists also took to the streets in Jerusalem to chant racist slogans, including “death to Arabs.” A reporter for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz was reportedly assaulted. Far-right Israelis also attacked Palestinian shop owners, as hundreds marched through occupied East Jerusalem to celebrate Israel’s domination of the city.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“Once again, the far-right Israeli government has permitted the desecration of one of Islam’s holiest sites by mobs of extremists. The racist sentiments of these mobs are ultimately no different than those of the Israeli government, which has been engaged in a brutal campaign of genocide, forced starvation and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. President Biden must condemn today’s violence and racist, genocidal rhetoric and end its support for this rogue nation. He should also demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire.”
Earlier today, CAIR called on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media companies to shut down a secret campaign by the far-right Israeli government to pressure Congress to continue the flow of taxpayer funds for its genocide in Gaza.
