The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the Trump administration’s border czar Tom Homan to cut and renounce his ties to anti-Muslim hate groups, including an extremist organization dedicated to opposing what it calls “the Satanic choke-hold of Islam” in America.
Earlier this month, CAIR exposed Homan’s relationship to anti-Muslim hate groups, such as The United West and ACT for America, in a special report.
In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:
“Every government official has a constitutional obligation to treat everyone in our nation equally regardless of their religion, and no hate group should play any role in influencing our nation’s policies. Border czar Tom Holman should immediately cut and renounce his ties to the anti-Muslim hate groups The United West and ACT for America, which have spent years fomenting dangerous bigotry against the American Muslim community and threatening the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of religious freedom. Until Mr. Holman does so, he himself must be identified as an anti-Muslim extremist alongside these groups and their founders.”
As recently as May 2025, Homan publicly collaborated with Tom Trento’s The United West, which has been designated an anti-Muslim hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and CAIR. Despite Trento’s long-standing record of anti-Muslim rhetoric, such as declaring “Islam is the enemy,” Homan was scheduled to participate in an immigration-themed tour to Israel alongside Trento in May. Homan previously tapped the anti-Muslim hate group to help run a border project for him in 2020.
Homan also has a relationship with Brigette Gabriel’s ACT for America, designated an anti-Muslim hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Homan was listed as a “special dinner gala honoree” for a convention held by the group in 2018.
ACT once was considered the nation’s largest anti-Muslim hate group. Its founder Brigitte Gabriel infamously said to an audience at the Pentagon, “If a Muslim who has — who is — a practicing Muslim who believes the word of the Koran to be the word of Allah, who abides by Islam, who goes to mosque and prays every Friday, who prays five times a day — this practicing Muslim, who believes in the teachings of the Koran, cannot be a loyal citizen to the United States of America.”
