The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on members of Congress to condemn Israel for burning a Palestinian mother alive while her daughter watched in Gaza.
Reem Asaad Awad, a 33-year-old mother, was killed when an Israeli airstrike hit her family’s apartment in Gaza City’s Rimal neighborhood around 4am Wednesday, setting the building on fire. Videos circulating online show her young daughter being pulled out of the burning apartment. Footage from inside the apartment shows the girl sitting alone on a bed as smoke fills the room and fire burns the wall above her. In another shot she presses her hand to her mouth, eyes wide with terror.

Israeli settlers have set fire to a mosque, an olive tree and a vehicle in the occupied West Bank, as Israeli forces continue to carry out raids across the territory.
In a statement, CAIR said:
“The horrific video of a little girl surrounded by fire as her mother burns to death in their home exemplifies the reality of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. We cannot comprehend how any political leader with a conscience could continue to fund the sheer cruelty of the Israeli government and the war criminals who carry out its orders. Members of Congress must condemn this atrocity and demand an immediate end to all U.S. support for Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
