The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the State Department to condemn attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan and make clear that the militia will never receive American recognition.
Yesterday, RSF drone strikes hit a major power station in the city of Port Sudan causing a “complete power outage”, the country’s electricity provider said.

On April 11, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stormed the Zamzam displacement camp in Sudan’s North Darfur, burning huts and shops, executing medics, and firing at fleeing civilians. According to monitors, at least 500 people – men, women, children and the elderly – were killed, and hundreds of thousands were forcibly displaced.

In a statement, CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We strongly condemn the so-called Rapid Support Forces escalating violence in Sudan, including horrific attacks on civilians. The United States should clearly condemn this violence, demand that any American allies stop supporting the RSF, and make it clear that this militia will never receive U.S. recognition. We stand in solidarity with Sudanese-Americans impacted by the ongoing violence and we call for a swift return to civilian rule.”
