Muslim civil rights and advocacy group also calls on media associations to condemn Israel’s targeting of reporters
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said U.S. media should show video of journalists being burned alive after an Israeli bombing of a media tent outside a hospital on Gaza.
Israel struck tents outside two hospitals in Gaza, killing at least two people, including Yousef al-Faqawi, a reporter for the Palestine Today news website, and wounding six other reporters.
According to a new reportby the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University: “The war in Gaza has, since October 7, 2023, killed more journalists than the U.S. Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War (including the conflicts in Cambodia and Laos), the wars in Yugoslavia in the 1990s and 2000s, and the post-9/11 war in Afghanistan, combined.”
In a statement, CAIR said:
“We call on all U.S. media outlets to air the video of journalists burning alive in their media tent after the Israeli government’s bombing. Journalists must be the first in line to expose the intentional mass murder of fellow journalists, and the American people must be able to see the horror perpetrated in Gaza with American weapons and taxpayer dollars.
“We call on every state and national association of journalists to condemn the Israeli government’s bombing of a media tent in Gaza and express solidarity with the Palestinian journalists facing targeted assassination for just doing their jobs.”
Yesterday, CAIR repeated its call for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and prosecute the Israeli officials, soldiers and illegal settlers responsible for committing violent crimes against Palestinian-Americans, including a 14-year-old U.S. teen reportedly murdered by Israelis in the Occupied West Bank.
On Saturday, CAIR said the revelation of Israeli government lies about its massacre of Palestinian medical personnel in Gaza “once again exposes the true nature of Israel’s genocide.”
