The Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) today welcomed hate crime charges in connection with a stabbing that took place last month in the Portage Park neighborhood.
A Chicago man has been charged with hate crimes after allegedly stabbing a woman in Portage Park last month after using a racial slur.
“We welcome hate crime charges in this despicable assault and hope actions of law enforcement authorities will act as a deterrent to further bias-motivated attacks,” said CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab. “Our streets must be safe for our citizens of all backgrounds.”
Rehab noted that earlier today, CAIR’s national office condemned racist vandalism reportedly at the new Nissan Stadium construction site in Nashville, Tennessee, weeks after work stopped temporarily after a noose was found on site.
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
