(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/3/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a racist incident that allegedly occurred during a high school basketball game in North Dakota.
Officials with Jamestown Public Schools have issued an apology after several middle and high school students were accused of making racist remarks and monkey noises directed at two Bismarck High School student-athletes during a basketball game Tuesday. The apology letter also said Jamestown High student leaders have begun the process of working with administrators to grow and learn from the experience and improve the district’s cultural competence.

“Racist hate has no place anywhere in our society, especially not in sports and educational institutions,” said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison. “We thank Jamestown Public Schools for taking action to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
