CAIR Condemns Deadly Shooting at Virginia’s Old Dominion University

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a condemned a deadly shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, which left at least one person dead and others injured.

Authorities say the shooting occurred Thursday morning inside a campus building, prompting an active-shooter alert and a large law-enforcement response. One victim was killed and at least two others were injured before the suspect was reported deceased.

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“We condemn this horrific act of violence at Old Dominion University and extend our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the entire campus community. No student, educator, or staff member should ever fear for their safety while learning or working. We urge community leaders, religious institutions, and public officials to work together to reject violence, protect all communities, and promote unity in the face of hatred and fear.”

CAIR has consistently condemned acts of terrorism. CAIR condemned ISIS’ (Daesh) violence so often that the group put CAIR’s executive director on a public hit list.
