(BALTIMORE, MD, 7/9/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the reported hacking of an electronic construction zone sign in Maryland with a racist message.
Officials say someone hacked into a sign on a Montgomery County road and inserted the racist message. Police did not reveal the specific message on the sign, which was reported Saturday morning. Officers erased the message and had the sign removed. It is being investigated as a hate/bias incident.

“We must all speak out against racism and all other forms of hate so that bigots do not feel emboldened to spread their hateful message,” said CAIR Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “Marylanders of all background must continue to repudiate those who would promote hate-filled ideologies.”
She said Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
