CAIR Condemns Israeli Attack on Christian Hospital in Gaza on Palm Sunday

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned Israel’s intentional attack on a Christian hospital in Gaza on Palm Sunday. CAIR also called on the Trump administration to condemn the attack.

Israeli forces hit al-Ahli Hospital, which is administered by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, a diocese of the Anglican Communion. It is the last operational hospital operating in northern Gaza.

Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) said it “condemns in the strongest possible terms the bombing of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza. Al-Ahli is an Anglican institution and one of the oldest, continuously operating hospitals in Gaza. It is Gaza’s only Christian hospital and its only cancer treatment center. The bombing of the Anglican Al-Ahli Arab Hospital is a violation of the sacredness of life and it is especially abhorrent during this sacred time for Christians.”

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine said: “The attack, carried out on Palm Sunday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar, constitutes a grave violation of religious sanctity and fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said: “Hospitals are protected under international humanitarian law. Attacks on health care must stop.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“The far-right Israeli government has shown time and again it is willing to violate religious norms, whether targeting Palestinian Christians or Muslims, in its genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. Faith leaders in our nation and worldwide must speak out against the war of extermination being waged by Israel using the support of the U.S. government and with American taxpayer dollars. We call on the Trump administration to similarly condemn this attack.”

On Friday, CAIR said a new United Nations analysis of recent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza showing that 36 of those strikes killed “only women and children” further exposes Israel’s genocide. Israel has slaughtered more than 50,000 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children.

CAIR recently called on the Trump administration to address the latest reports of Israel’s torture of Palestinian prisoners.

Washington, D.C., based CAIR also called for the release of prominent Palestinian journalist Samer Khuwaira after he was taken from his West Bank home by Israeli forces.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
