CAIR Condemns Israel’s Invasion and Bombing of Syria as ‘New and Escalating Crimes’

Muslim civil rights group says Biden’s refusal to suspend weapons shipments to Israel in response to the Gaza genocide emboldened Netanyahu

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned Israel’s invasion and bombing of Syria as “new and escalating crimes.”

CAIR also said Biden’s refusal to suspend offensive weapons to Israel in response to the Gaza genocide emboldened indicted war criminal Netanyahu to invade and bomb Syria.

Following the fall of the Assad dictatorship in Syria, Israel seized territory in Syrian-controlled buffer zone of the Golan Heights established by a 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria. Israel also bombed a number of sites in Syria.

The UN General Assembly recently adopted a resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Golan Heights, which it seized in 1967. That resolution stated, “the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan and its de facto annexation constitute a stumbling block in the way of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.”

Yesterday, CAIR congratulated the Syrian-American community, the liberated people of Syria, the Muslim world, and everyone who supports justice for all on the fall of the brutal Assad dictatorship.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“We strongly condemn the criminal Israeli government’s invasion and bombing of Syria, which would not be happening without the permission of the Biden administration.

“President Biden’s stubborn refusal to suspend offensive weapons to Israel in response to the Gaza genocide has emboldened indicted war criminal Netanyahu to commit new and escalating crimes, now in Syria. International law clearly means nothing to the Israeli government, and if President Biden does not demand an end to Israel’s crimes, he should stop pretending that international law matters to him.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Syria, who must be left alone to rebuild their country, free from foreign military occupation and attacks.”

He noted that last week, CAIR called on the American Medical Association (AMA) to condemn the latest Israeli massacre of medical personnel in Gaza.

Also last week, CAIR said the Biden administration must end arms shipments to Israel after a new report by Amnesty International, titled “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman’: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” concludes that Israel has committed – and still is committing – genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
