The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the Pentagon’s lying about the number of U.S. troops in Syria and called on the incoming Trump administration to make a plan for a full withdrawal from that nation.
The Pentagon announced yesterday that the United States has “approximately 2,000” troops in Syria, more than double the number previously disclosed.
In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:
“The Pentagon’s admission that 2,000 U.S. troops have been secretly operating in Syria is stunning. The Biden administration must explain who made the decision to lie about the troop presence, why they lied, and how long these troops have been operating without congressional knowledge or authorization. We call on President-Elect Trump to make plans to fully withdraw U.S. troops from Syria and to turn over occupied territory to the newly-liberated Syrian people.”
CAIR congratulated the Syrian-American community, the liberated people of Syria, the Muslim world, and everyone who supports justice for all on the fall of the brutal Assad dictatorship.
