The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s implicit threat to help Republicans in Congress impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) after it sought arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and defense minister.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We strongly condemn Secretary Blinken for his dangerous threat to take punitive action against the International Criminal Court in collaboration with Senate Republicans. Threating judges or prosecutors for doing their job would be a crime here in America and it’s just as unacceptable at the international level.
“It is also blatantly hypocritical for the Biden administration, which supported and uplifted the ICC when it charged Vladimir Putin with committing war crimes in Ukraine, to condemn and threaten the ICC for charging Benjamin Netanyahu with committing war crimes in Gaza.
“Sadly, it appears Secretary Blinken is willing to throw consistency to the wind, destroy what remains of America’s reputation, and upend the entire international legal system in order to defend the far-right Israeli government’s genocide from accountability.”
Yesterday, CAIR condemned the latest Israeli war crimes and abuses targeting Palestinian civilians, including the killing of school children in an attack on the Jenin refugee camp.
CAIR also condemned an Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed 27 people, mostly women and children, and called on the Biden administration to respect and not interfere with the “clear and credible” arrest warrant applications that the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor is seeking against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
