The Maryland office of the Council on American‑Islamic Relations (CAIR) today congratulated Mayor Fazlul Kabir on his re-election on November 4 as Mayor of the City of College Park, Maryland. The official election results were released last evening.
Mayor Kabir’s re-election reflects the confidence the people of College Park have placed in his leadership and underscores the growing voice and civic engagement of Muslim Americans and South Asian Americans in Maryland public life.
“I’m honored to be elected Mayor and grateful for the trust of our residents,” said Mayor Kabir in a statement to CAIR. “As the first American Muslim to hold this office in Maryland, I hope this victory reflects the strength of our diverse and inclusive community. I look forward to serving all of our residents with integrity and commitment.”
“As we celebrate this important victory, we recognize that Mayor Kabir’s success is also a testament to a community ready to embrace inclusive leadership,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “We look forward to his continued service and contributions as we work with city leadership to ensure that the values of justice, equity and civic participation are fully realized in College Park and beyond.”
In a statement, CAIR’s Maryland Advisory Board said:
“Mayor Fazlul Kabir’s re-election is more than a local victory — it’s a reaffirmation that public service rooted in humility and compassion resonates with Marylanders of all backgrounds. His leadership continues to inspire a new generation of Muslim and immigrant Americans to see themselves as integral contributors to our state’s civic life. The CAIR Maryland Advisory Board congratulates Mayor Kabir and looks forward to working with him to advance inclusion, justice, and opportunity for all residents of College Park.”
Mayor Kabir first made history by being elected Mayor of College Park in 2023, becoming the first Muslim mayor in the State of Maryland. His re-election reinforces that historic moment and opens a new chapter for inclusive, community-based leadership in the region.
