(HARTFORD, CT, 5/3/2022) – The Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT) today condemned an allegedly bias-motivated arson of a vehicle belonging to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormons.
A suspected arsonist reportedly confessed to starting the fire because he did not agree with the victim’s religious beliefs.
“Americans of all faiths should be free to share their faith without fear of intimidation or attack,” said CAIR-CT Chairman Farhan Memon. “We condemn this alleged bias-motivated attack and urge community leaders to speak out against the type of bigotry that inevitably leads to such incidents.”
Memon said the American Muslim community and CAIR stand in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
