(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/20/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed thanks to former President Jimmy Carter for his decades of humanitarian work and activism both in the United States and abroad.
Carter, 98, recently entered hospice care. The Carter Center said in a statement that he has “decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention.”

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:
“We join other American Muslims in expressing our appreciation to former President Jimmy Carter for not only his decades of humanitarian work, but also for his decades of humanitarian activism. From advocating for racial justice here in America to calling out injustices facing Palestinians and others overseas, President Carter set a remarkable bar for post-presidency life. We pray that God grants him comfort, guidance and the best of care.”
