(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/11/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed solidarity with the Asian- American community in Utah after alleged anti-Asian vandalism targeting a nail salon in Salt Lake City.
Police are investigating the break-in and vandalism – which reportedly included an anti-Asian phrase spray-painted inside the salon – as a hate crime.
In a statement, CAIR National Communications Manager Ismail Allison said:
“We express the Muslim community’s solidarity with Asian-Americans in Utah in response to this hateful incident. No Americans should face bias-motivated attacks or intimidation. Elected officials and community leaders must speak out more forcefully against the rising level of hatred and division we are witnessing nationwide.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
