The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed solidarity with the Muslim community in Australia following a reported hate attack on an Imam (religious leader) and his wife.
According to media reports and community statements, the imam and his wife were allegedly assaulted in a roadside incident believed to be motivated by anti-Muslim hatred.
In a statement, Washington, D.C.-based CAIR said:
“We stand in full solidarity with the Australian Muslim community and with the imam and his wife who were reportedly targeted in this alleged Islamophobic hate attack. No one should fear for their safety because of their faith, appearance, or identity. This disturbing incident is a reminder that anti-Muslim bigotry is a global threat that must be confronted with unity, justice, and moral clarity.
“We urge Australian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible fully accountable. Political leaders and institutions must also address the broader climate of hate that fuels such attacks by unequivocally condemning Islamophobia and protecting the rights and dignity of all faith communities.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
