(ATLANTA, GA, 2/10/2025) – On Tuesday, February 11th, the Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA) plans to hold a press conference asking Emory School of Medicine to reinstate wrongfully suspended Palestinian-American Medical Student, Umaymah Mohammad, and uphold Emory’s Open Expression Policy. CAIR-GA will be joined by Emory University Faculty Noëlle McAfee and Emil’ Keme, who were violently arrested on Emory’s campus during students’ anti-war peaceful protests. Umaymah was suspended by Emory School of Medicine Administrators in November of 2024 after she interviewed with the ‘Democracy Now!’ news outlet in her private time.
Emory University’s own Committee for Open Expression (CFOE) launched an independent investigation and concluded in its report that Ms. Mohammad’s speech was “protected by the Emory Respect for Open Expression Policy” and recommended “proceedings against Ms. Mohammad be dropped.”
