In a statement, CAIR-Houston Executive Director Lubabah Abdullah said:
“We are calling on Texas Republican Party Leaders to reject these unconscionable Islamophobic and bigoted remarks and make it clear once and for all disturbing that such language has no place in the party. It’s disturbing that the audience responded to these hate-filled remarks with laughter. The Texas GOP should aspire to be a big-tent party in favor of religious diversity and inclusion.”
Washington-based CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
