CAIR-AZ: Hobbs vetoes antisemitism bill that would have made teachers personally liable – Arizona Daily Star

CAIR-AZ: Hobbs calls Republicans’ ‘antisemitism’ bill bunk – KAWC

That language in the IHRA also provoked a letter to Hobbs from the Council on American-Islamic Relations and other groups urging a veto.

Signers also questioned the legality of HB 2867.

They pointed out that CAIR, representing Students for Justice in Palestine, sued after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed schools there to adopt the IHRA definition in determining the limits of permissible speech. In a preliminary ruling, a federal judge said it appears it imposes “impermissible viewpoint discrimination that chills speech in violation of the First Amendment.”

CAIR: The ADL has got to go – Mondoweiss

Both the Council on Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) came out with strong statements condemning Greenblatt.

CAIR stated: “We strongly condemn ADL Director Jonathan Greenblatt’s unhinged, racist rant attacking Black, Arab and Muslim Americans during a speech to Republican attorneys general. Although Mr. Greenblatt’s vile remarks are nothing new for the ADL, it is long past time for this organization to fire him and stop smearing Black, Palestinian and Muslim activists in a transparent attempt to protect the genocidal Israeli government from legitimate criticism.”

CAIR-MA: Students, activists push for creation of state Muslim commission – The Boston Globe

Massachusetts lawmakers heard these stories and more Tuesday as part of Muslim lobbying day at the State House. More than 100 people, including many school-aged kids, advocated for several bills that would protect Muslim Americans and immigrants alike. Notably, one that would create a permanent commission to study the issues facing Muslims in Massachusetts.

The push follows a recent report from the Massachusetts Council on American-Islamic Relations — the group that organized the lobbying day — that showed a 65 percent increase in reported hate crimes and harassment against Muslims in 2024, the highest recorded since the group started collecting data in 2017. The results, collected from 325 students across 11 counties, also indicated that 48 percent of Muslim students in state public schools were bullied because of their religion, and 35 percent of hijab-wearing girls experienced physical harassment…

Toward the end of the day, multiple advocates read out victim impact statements from people represented in court by CAIR-MA. Others shared their own stories of harassment, including Aimen Tahir, a recent high school graduate.

Tahir said she was once “chased down the hall” in her freshman year of high school because someone wanted to “comment” on her hijab.
