CAIR Philadelphia has filed a freedom of information request seeking to learn who made the decision to bar Macklemore from the Philadelphia venue.

“Now there’s some rich person lobbying other venues to cancel him. This is something that is unacceptable,” said Ahmet Tekelioglu, the organization’s executive director.

Tekelioglu also said, “Asking that we recognize that what is happening is a genocide, and is wrong, is not something problematic. It’s something millions of people share.”

Meanwhile, the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations backed Al-Shaair over his continued advocacy for Palestinians.

“We commend Al-Shaair for using his platform to highlight the memory of Hind Rajab, one of the many children murdered by the Israeli government during its genocide in Gaza,” the rights group said in a statement on its website.

“Like Muhammad Ali and other athletes of conscience before him, Azeez Al-Shaair is using his platform to stand up for justice. We applaud him and encourage others to follow suit in standing up for human rights, from Gaza to Sudan and elsewhere,” CAIR-Houston Director of Operations Imran Ghani said.

Meanwhile, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) welcomed Meeks’ decision.

“After years of mass civilian slaughter and the systematic destruction of Gaza, no reasonable person can claim ignorance about how the racist, openly genocidal Netanyahu government would use these weapons,” CAIR said in a statement.

Of Note: The city’s Human Relations Commission, which was tasked with developing anti-hate definitions, never officially voted on the proposed definition. A special meeting to do so last week did not reach quorum.

Instead, the Council of American-Islamic Relations brought forward the definition, with the support of Elo-Rivera and Council President Joe LaCava.
