CAIR-LA, Partners to Address Recent Violence Against UCLA Students

Later today (Wednesday, May 1), the Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA), along with the University of California, Los Angeles’ Muslim Student Association (UCLA MSA), Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), and other prominent Muslim-serving organizations will address the violent attacks on students participating in the UCLA Gaza Solidarity Encampment. 

On Tuesday, April 30, pro-Israel counter-protesters attacked UCLA students peacefully protesting on campus, including shooting fireworks and pepper spray into the encampment, injuring several people. This incident is part of ongoing, daily harassment that students have reported from counter-protesters since the launch of the encampment.

Earlier today, CAIR-LA strongly condemned the violent attacks by a mob of pro-Israel extremists on UCLA’s peaceful anti-genocide student encampment last night, injuring several people, and called on law enforcement to identify and prosecute those responsible.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
