CAIR-LA, Partners to Hold Vigil for Palestinian-American Child Killed in Hate Fueled Attack

(LOS ANGELES, CA – 10/17/2023) – On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Greater Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA), along with the Islamic Center of Orange County (ISOC), Project Islamic H.O.P.E, and the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, will hold a vigil to honor the life of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoum and all victims of Islamophobia and war.

Wadea Al-Fayoum was killed by his family’s landlord on Saturday, Oct. 14, when the landlord attacked him and his mother with a knife.

According to text messages reportedly sent to the father of the boy by the mother from the hospital, the suspect tried to choke her before yelling “you Muslims must die!” and attacking them with the weapon.

CAIR-LA has recently seen disturbing reports of other violent assaults on Muslims and others for showing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. We stand with all the victims who have been impacted by Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian hate.

WHAT: Vigil for Wadea Al-Fayoum and Victims of Islamophobia and War

WHEN: Tuesday, Oct. 17, 6 p.m. PT

WHERE: Islamic Center of Orange County, 1 Al-Rahman Plaza, 9752 13th Street, Garden Grove, CA
