On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the governing body of the LA teachers union voted to support a “Joint Resolutions of Disapproval.” Their vote called on California Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler to support the action introduced by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, which aims to block the sale of billions in offensive U.S. weaponry to the genocidal Israeli government.
In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:
“At a time when schools across America are facing inadequate funding and a lack of basic resources, we commend the LA teachers union for standing firmly in support of Palestinian human rights and questioning why billions of tax dollars are being funneled into a foreign genocidal war. Educators have the moral responsibility to shape students into the next generation of informed, engaged citizens. By calling on Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler to oppose offensive arms sales to Israel, LA teachers are leading by example—showing their students what true civic responsibility looks like by holding elected officials accountable and demanding just U.S. foreign policy.”
CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
