CAIR Launches Robocall, Text Messaging Campaign Urging Maryland Muslims to Vote in Tuesday’s Primary Election

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today urged all registered voters in Maryland to participate in tomorrow’s state and presidential primary elections on Tuesday, May 14. CAIR is also launching a follow-up statewide robocall and text messaging campaign targeting thousands of registered Muslim voter households and supporters of CAIR urging them to vote to help ensure maximum participation in the democratic process.

Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 14

The robocall scheduled today will broadcast the following message to over 8,000 Muslim voter households:

“As-salamu alaikum. This is a friendly reminder from CAIR that tomorrow, Tuesday, May 14, is Maryland’s state’s primary election. The Democratic presidential candidates are Joe Biden, Dean Phillips, Marianne Williamson, and Uncommitted. The Republican presidential candidates are Nikki Haley and Donald Trump. It is crucial to exercise your right to vote. For more information, visit www.cair.com. As a 501c3 organization, CAIR does not endorse candidates for public office. Thank you.”

Maryland is a closed primary state, meaning voters must be affiliated with a political party to participate in that party’s primary election. Unaffiliated voters can still vote in down-ballot nonpartisan races such as local boards of education.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
