CAIR-MA Expands Team with New Civil Rights Attorney Hire Amid Surge in Islamophobia in Massachusetts 

Mariam Aydah Joins CAIR-MA to Defend Civil Rights as Calls for Help Grow

The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) is proud to announce the hiring of Mariam Aydah filling the role of Civil Rights Attorney (license pending.) This critical addition to the CAIR-MA legal team comes in response to a year of record-breaking Islamophobia.

CAIR-MA is committed to safeguarding the civil rights of Muslims and ensuring that they are protected from escalating discrimination and violence here in Massachusetts. Ms. Aydah’s expertise and passion for justice make her a valuable asset in this critical work.

“As we continue to see a rise in Islamophobic violence in Massachusetts, it is more important than ever that we bolster our legal resources to protect the civil rights of the Muslim community,” says Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, Executive Director of CAIR-MA. “Not only is Mariam a stellar advocate who brings the dedication, passion, and experience needed to safeguard Muslims rights, but Mariam is a Palestinian-American and a hijabi. Her lived experience will resonate with so many of our constituents, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and supported by CAIR-MA. I am thrilled to welcome Mariam to our team.”

Mariam Aydah: A Leader in Civil Rights Advocacy

Mariam Aydah, a Palestinian-American Muslim and advocate for justice, joins CAIR-MA with an impressive track record in civil rights. She graduated cum laude from Western New England University School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate with a Public Interest Concentration. During her time as a student, she served as President of the Student Bar Association and founded the Middle Eastern Law Student Association, where she played a pivotal role in challenging harmful stereotypes about Arabs and Muslims, while celebrating the diverse cultures of the Middle East.

Her commitment to advocacy was recognized through prestigious awards, including the James C. Faison Multicultural Leadership Award by the law faculty for her leadership and the Social Justice Advocacy Award from the Black Law Student Association for her dedication to marginalized communities. Ms. Aydah also holds a summa cum laude Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Westfield State University.

At CAIR-MA, Mariam Aydah will continue her mission of defending civil rights and uplifting the Muslim community in Massachusetts. Her addition to the team is a significant step towards ensuring that Muslim residents receive the support and legal advocacy they need in the face of increasing Islamophobia.
