(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 12/7/20) – The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called for an investigation into a fire that occurred last night at the Woodbury residential complex and NorthStar Residential LLC.
People living at Woodbury properties managed by NorthStar Residential have reached out to CAIR-Minnesota in previous months reporting inadequate responses to maintenance requests.
Some residents allege they had lack of hot water for days, inoperative appliances, water issues, and fuse boxes tripping and not properly working. CAIR-MN is asking for a thorough investigation into the fire as well as behavior and practices of NorthStar Residential LLC.
In a statement, CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein said:
“While the investigation is ongoing and there is not yet a determination of the cause of fire, we urge Woodbury city leadership and the Woodbury Building Inspections Division to investigate compliance with city building ordinances at the complex to ensure the health and safety of all residents. We encourage the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office to exercise its authority to investigate and ensure compliance with Minnesota’s consumer protection and anti-discrimination law.”
